Plasma Turbulence Across Scales – From MHD to Kinetics

Workshop · July 13–15, 2026 · RUB

Panel (a) of a two-dimensional plasma turbulence simulation: thin swirling filaments and vortices across a periodic square domain, colour scale from −45 to 60
Panel (b) of the same simulation in a second quantity: the same filament pattern, colour scale from −100 to 60

The solar wind provides a unique natural laboratory for studying plasma turbulence across a broad range of scales, connecting fundamental plasma physics with geophysical, astrophysical, and industrial applications. Recent advances in high-performance computing (HPC), together with high-cadence and multi-point space missions, now enable unprecedented access to the kinetic processes operating from ion to electron scales. These developments offer a timely opportunity to investigate the mechanisms governing the turbulent transfer and dissipation of energy. This workshop will bring together international experts to discuss recent progress, identify open questions, and foster new collaborations in this rapidly evolving field.
