Theoretical Physics I at Ruhr University Bochum aims to make its website accessible in accordance with the Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz NRW (BGG NRW) and the Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung NRW (BITV NRW), which implement Directive (EU) 2016/2102. This statement applies to the website tp1.ruhr-uni-bochum.de. Deutsche Fassung weiter unten.
Compliance Status
This website is partially compliant with BITV NRW and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, because of the exceptions listed below.
What we took care of: all pages can be used with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus; colors meet the WCAG contrast ratios; images have alternative texts; the layout adapts to small screens and to page zoom of up to 200 %; animations are switched off for visitors whose system is set to reduce motion; all content and links except e-mail addresses (see below) also work without JavaScript.
Non-Accessible Content
- PDF files of publications: most of the PDF links in the publication lists on the profile pages lead to a password-protected area – the publishers’ copyright does not allow public copies; the PDF files have not been checked for accessibility. Title, authors and journal of every publication, and for almost all an abstract, are shown as text on the page; most entries also link to the publisher (DOI) or to arXiv.
- E-mail addresses of Theoretical Physics I are put together by a small script in the browser, to protect them from spam. Without JavaScript, the note “e-mail (needs JavaScript)” appears instead. The central accessibility contact and the Ombudsstelle below are always readable; the secretariat can also be reached by phone (see Contact).
- Text-only enlargement: if only the text size (not the whole page) is set to 200 % in a wide browser window, the main menu and the team table no longer fit into the window. Page zoom (Ctrl/Cmd and +) enlarges everything without this problem.
- Scientific figures, such as simulation results, are described in their alternative text in summary form only; the underlying data is not provided as text.
- Linked websites of publishers, arXiv, eCampus, the room booking system and other institutions are not covered by this statement; their accessibility is not under our control.
- The Space Weather dashboard (spaceweather.tp1.ruhr-uni-bochum.de) is a separate research application, currently open to project members only. It is not covered by this statement.
Preparation of This Statement
This statement was prepared on September 23, 2026 and last reviewed on October 2, 2026. It is based on a self-assessment by the webmaster, without an external audit: automated testing against WCAG 2.1 and 2.2, levels A and AA, with axe-core on all page types, in desktop and phone sizes, together with manual checks of keyboard operation, focus visibility, color contrast, alternative texts, page zoom to 200 % and use without JavaScript.
