On October 1, 2026, Prof. Dr. Daniel Verscharen joined the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy as Professor of Theoretical Plasma Physics. His professorship is attached to Theoretical Physics I, which now brings together computational and theoretical plasma physics.
His research covers the physics of space and astrophysical plasmas, in particular the solar wind – plasma waves and instabilities, wave-particle interactions, turbulence and couplings across scales. Before coming to Bochum, he worked at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory of University College London and at the University of New Hampshire.
